PUTNAM, CT — August 11, 2026 — On Thursday morning, the East Putnam Fire Department was called to a non-injury tractor-trailer collision on Interstate 395 South close to Exit 45 (Kennedy Drive).
Firefighters from East Putnam arrived to the scene of the collision at around 7:15 a.m. The tractor-trailer had been damaged, causing the saddle fuel tank to leak.
While firemen and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) addressed the fuel leak and prepared the tractor-trailer for removal, the left travel lane was shut.
Engine 479, Engine Tanker 179, and Tanker 179 were among the units assigned. The event was also assigned to Putnam EMS.
To control the fuel tank leak, DEEP staff collaborated with fire crews. After that, the tractor-trailer had to be removed from the area by tow.
