Seneca Hose Crew Supported Operations at Large Scrap Metal Fire

HAMBURG, NY — August 14 — Seneca Hose Company #1 responded to a large scrap metal fire at Metalico on Route 5 in Hamburg on August 14, 2026.Rescue 5 was assigned as the Firefighter Assist and Search Team (FAST) during the incident.


The company stated that Rescue 5 was on scene as the FAST team while firefighters were working at the recycling facility.

This assignment ensured a dedicated crew was available to provide assistance to interior or operational crews if a firefighter became injured, trapped, disoriented, or required emergency help.


The incident took place at Metalico Buffalo Shredding & Recovery, a scrap-metal processing facility located at 3175 Lake Shore Road in Blasdell. A report from WGRZ identified the August 14 fire as a large fire at the facility, situated off Route 5 in the Woodlawn area.


Seneca Hose Company #1 was based at 2801 Seneca Street in West Seneca and served the West Seneca Fire District #5.

The department identified itself as a 100% volunteer organization that serves West Seneca and surrounding communities.
