Monroe firefighters handle house fire, crashes in busy day

MONROE, Conn. (Aug. 29, 2025) — Volunteers with the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department responded to multiple calls Friday, including a house fire and two separate vehicle collisions.

The day began at 2:45 a.m. with a mutual aid tanker response to Milford. Hours later, from about 7 to 9 a.m., Monroe crews extinguished a house fire on Turkey Roost Road, then spent two hours cleaning hose and equipment.

In the afternoon, firefighters answered a call for a two-car crash at Route 111 and Purdy Hill Road. Another crash was reported later that evening at Route 111 and Elm Street.
