AKWESASNE, N.Y. (Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025) — A small fire on Chapman Road Thursday served as a reminder that Akwesasne remains under an outdoor burn ban despite recent rainfall, officials said.
The Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident and warned that conditions are still dry and fire could have spread quickly.
Mutual aid was provided by the Fort Covington Fire Department, with Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance and Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service also assisting at the scene.
Officials urged residents to comply with the burn ban to prevent further incidents.
