JAY, N.Y. (Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025) — The Jay Volunteer Fire Department held a water supply training Tuesday night at a pond in Au Sable Acres, officials said.

The exercise focused on flushing a dry hydrant and establishing a water supply to the roadway. Crews deployed 300 feet of five-inch hose and a manifold to fill tanker trucks for relay to a fire scene.

Fire officials reminded residents not to park in front of the gate near the hydrant, noting that while crews had time to locate the vehicle owner during training, that delay could hinder operations during an actual emergency.

The department also reminded the public that a burn ban remains in effect and encouraged new applicants to consider joining the fire service.
