Virgil firefighters knock down midnight car fire on Route 392

VIRGIL, N.Y. (Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025) — Firefighters in Virgil quickly extinguished a car fire just after midnight Saturday on Route 392 near Timmerman Hill Road, officials said.
The Virgil Fire Department was dispatched at 12 a.m. and arrived within minutes to find flames in the vehicle’s engine compartment extending into the passenger area. Crews deployed a hose line and knocked down the fire within minutes.
The driver was able to escape safely, according to the department.
Responding units included 1060, 1001 and 1021, along with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, Cortland County 911 and Ron’s Towing, which removed the vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
