COPAKE, N.Y. (Monday, Aug. 18, 2025) — Copake firefighters trained Monday morning on rescue techniques designed to save downed firefighters during emergencies, officials said.
The drill focused on Mayday/Firefighter Down procedures, including use of Emergency Breathing Safety Systems and rapid intervention team packs, which allow rescuers to supply air to a trapped or incapacitated firefighter.
Crews also practiced ladder hinge rescues, a technique used to remove an injured firefighter or victim from upper floors.
Officials said the training strengthens readiness for one of the most dangerous fireground scenarios.
