Driver airlifted after crash with entrapment in German

GERMAN, N.Y. (Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025) — A driver was airlifted to Syracuse on Saturday after being trapped in a vehicle crash on County Road 5 near Maroney and Hollow roads, officials said.

Smithville Fire was dispatched around 11 a.m. along with McDonough Fire and Greene EMS after a cell phone crash detection alert and a confirming 911 call. McDonough Fire’s C220 assumed command as crews worked to extricate the patient.

C180 and Engine 182 assisted with operations. Due to the severity of injuries, Guthrie Air was requested and the patient was transported by Greene EMS to the landing zone, where the helicopter flew the individual to Syracuse.

Willet Fire closed County Road 5 at County 2 to secure the area.

Officials thanked all responding members and mutual aid partners for their quick response and teamwork.
