Spotswood, NJ - Spotswood Volunteer Fire Department – Enterprise Hook & Ladder Co., Inc. was dispatched to Old Stage Road for reports of downed power lines that had ignited and were actively burning along the roadway. Ladder 71-9 and Engine 71-1 responded and confirmed primary electrical conductors down, arcing and burning upon contact with the roadway.

Crews secured the area immediately and established a safety perimeter due to the active electrical hazard and risk of extension. Shortly after initial operations, a second call was received reporting a transformer arcing at the intersection of Brunswick Avenue and Old Stage Road, indicating multiple electrical system failures in the area.

Operations were managed in Middlesex County on August 2, where firefighters maintained strict scene control at both locations, preventing public access while coordinating closely with the utility provider for an emergency power shutdown. Due to the energized conditions, firefighting efforts remained focused on isolation and hazard control until utilities could safely de-energize the system.

Once power was secured, crews remained on scene for an extended period to monitor for residual arcing and confirm complete shutdown of the affected lines and transformer equipment. Fire personel continued standby operations until all hazards were fully mitigated and the area was deemed safe.

All units remained comitted until utility crews completed stablization and the incident was brought fully under control without further escalation.
