BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Aug. 20 — Firefighters responded on Thursday afternoon to a reported stove fire at a home located on Oak Street in Bridgewater.The situation was upgraded to a working structure fire while the fire departments were still responding.

Country Hills Volunteer Fire Company was the first to arrive at the scene.

Additional support came from 21 Fire and Bridgewater Fire District 3 units.

Upon arrival, the initial responding chiefs from Country Hills and Green Knoll reported smoke coming from a two-story, single-family residence.

Engine 21-2 arrived first and stretched an attack line to start fire suppression efforts.

Squad 24, Engine 24, and other mutual aid companies arrived to assist with setting up a water supply, fire attack, searches, ventilation, and overhaul.

Chief 24 took command and managed the incident from there.

The first report indicated a stove fire with potential for spread before the situation was upgraded to a working structure fire.

Firefighters then operated as a coordinated structure fire response, dealing with the reported fire area while conducting searches, ventilation, and checking for any further spread during overhaul.

Engine 21-2 is assigned to Bradley Gardens Volunteer Fire Company, which serves Bridgewater Township Fire District 2 and also provides mutual aid to surrounding areas.

Country Hills Volunteer Fire Company is based at 264 Milltown Road and serves parts of Bridgewater and Branchburg townships.

Somerset County lists Country Hills, North Branch, and Green Knoll among the volunteer fire companies serving the Bridgewater area.
