Hewlett Ladder 303 Responds to Atlantic Beach Structure Collapse After Tornado

Hewlett, NY - In the Nassau county on 20th Augusr 2026 at approximately 7:10 p.m. thursday, the Hewlett Fire Department was called to provide mutual aid to the Atlantic Beach area following reports of a structure collapse at the Sun & Surf Beach Club, believed to have been caused by a tornado.


The Hewlett Fire Department’s Ladder 303 responded to the scene to assist the Inwood Fire Department with emergency operations. Upon arrival, firefighters quickly established a precautionary attack line and prepared for a potential search and rescue operation within the damaged structure.


Crews conducted a thorough search of the affected area, checking for anyone who may have been trapped or injured following the collapse. All searches were completed with negative results, and no additional occupants were found inside the structure.


Officials reported one minor injury associated with the incident. Firefighters remained on scene to assist with safety operations and ensure the area was adequately searched following the tornado-related damage.


The response highlighted the importance of mutual aid between neighboring fire departments during severe weather emergencies, allowing crews and equipment to quickly converge on the scene and assist those affected.
