Yonkers, N.Y. — September 9 — The Yonkers Fire Department responded to a three-alarm fire at a three-story wooden house located at 13 Cedar Street in the Nodine Hill area of the city during the early morning of September 9. The fire was reported around 6 a.m., and dispatchers received several calls indicating heavy flames were visible from the structure. When the first firefighters arrived, they found extensive fire conditions and people trapped inside, which led to an immediate search and rescue effort inside the building.
Fire officials said the fire had spread to the adjacent home at 15 Cedar Street. Firefighters worked to control the fire within the two buildings, conducting operations both inside and outside the structures to put out the main portion of the fire.
A 28-year-old man was rescued from the original fire building but later died as a result of his injuries.
Two other individuals from the same house were taken to a hospital for treatment. No one was found inside the neighboring home when the fire spread there.
Following the incident, both buildings were found to be uninhabitable and required repairs. The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation.
This event highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts in search, rescue, fire suppression, and overhaul during fast-developing residential fires.
