BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025) — Bloomfield firefighters responded to two emergencies Saturday, rescuing people stranded in floodwaters and extinguishing a small kitchen fire, officials said.
During severe weather, Engine 1—staffed with swift water rescue technicians—was dispatched to assist a vehicle trapped in rising water. Firefighters safely reached the occupants and brought them to dry land. No injuries were reported.
At the same time, a bell alarm was dispatched to Willow Street for a reported fire. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from a residence and discovered flames contained to an oven. The fire had not spread to the rest of the kitchen, according to the department.
Officials thanked automatic aid partners and mutual aid companies that responded and provided coverage during the incidents.
