Washington, PA - South Strabane Fire Department responded to a vehicle accident on Interstate 79 just south of Racetrack Road involving a tanker truck and roadway hazards.
A tanker truck traveling southbound left the roadway and went over a hillside after the driver attempted to avoid two tires that had become dislodged from a northbound tractor trailer. The incident resulted in lane restrictions in both directions, with traffic reduced to a single lane during operations.
Fire units operated on scene alongside State Police, Ambulance & Chair EMS, and Washington County Department of Public Safety to manage the incident, control hazards, and address potential hazardous materials concerns.
Crews worked to stabilize the scene, mitigate risks, and coordinate the safe removal of involved vehicles. All lanes were eventually reopened after operations were completed. No major injuries were reported.
