Reading, PA - On the evening of Sunday, July 5th firefighters were alerted for a house fire at 1054 Birch Street. Engine 9 arrived at a 2½ story EOR with smoke showing from the second floor. Ladder 3, the first-due ladder company, radioed that their apparatus had broken down after leaving quarters and would need to be replaced on the box. Firefighters forced entry into the structure and stretched a line up the stairs. Tower 1 eventually arrived and took a position in front of the building and began assisting in searching the home. The fire was knocked down quickly, and the searches were clear. One firefighter was injured during the incident and required transport to Reading Hospital with a minor injury. The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
