MASTIC, NY – On the morning of May 27th, the Mastic Fire Department hosted its annual memorial day ceremony at the Mastic Fire Department memorial located at Montauk Highway, near Herkimer St. The department was joined by several surrounding departments, including Brookhaven, Center Moriches, Manorville and Yaphank. Shirley and Mastic Ambulance joined, as well as veterans and school organizations and local elected leaders.
During the services, Taps were played and music was sung by William Floyd students. Elected leaders gave brief words about memorial day and the importances of it. Wreaths were laid at the site of the memorial by members of the various departments in attendance.
After the services concluded, members marched and paraded back to the Mastic firehouse for another brief department service for those fire department members who perished, and then the department was dismissed.
