Norwalk, CT - The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a three-alarm fire at a multifamily residence on Ely Avenue that displaced 13 residents and sent a teenage occupant and a firefighter to the hospital.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire conditions and smoke throughout the two-story building, prompting an expanded response amid reports of possible trapped occupants. Crews launched an aggressive fire attack from multiple sides of the structure while conducting searches and ventilation operations.

Before firefighters arrived, a 14-year-old girl escaped by jumping from a second-floor window and was transported for evaluation. Her mother was assisted from the building by a neighbor using a ladder. Firefighters also rescued one dog from the home, while a second dog escaped with occupants.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Norwalk Fire Marshal's Office
