MONSON, MA - On April 13th at 9:22 P.M., the Monson FD was dispatched to 111 Bogan Road for smoke coming from the basement windows of a residential structure.
Chief Harris was the first to arrive on scene and reported a working basement fire. During the 360 it was discovered that the entire basement was involved with fire. The first arriving engine crew made a brief interior attack on the fire, but were met with hoarding conditions and had to immediately back out. A second-alarm was ordered, bringing in mutual aid from Brimfield, Hampden, Palmer and Wilbraham fire departments.
The operation was moved to defensive attack due to conditions in the home and several small explosions coming from within the structure. Water had to be drafted from a source 600-feet away and pumped to the fire. The structure eventually became fully involved and firefighters needed to protect exposures while others battled the fire. Firefighters remained on scene until 1:00 P.M. the following day to put out hot spots and aid in the investigation.
