Fitchburg Firefighters Battle Pine Street Building Fire

Fitchburg, Mass. — September 12, 2026 — Firefighters headed to the Pine Street area late Saturday morning in response to a reported building fire, after crews en route noted thick black smoke rising from the Water Street area. 

At about 11:12 a.m., the Fitchburg Fire Department sent out Group 4 companies. When the first firefighters arrived, they encountered thick smoke and flames emerging from the back of the building, with adjacent structures also threatened by the fire. 

The crews swiftly deployed several attack lines, set up a water supply, and extended an aerial ladder to the roof. The incident was elevated to a working fire as firefighters continued efforts to bring the blaze under control. 

After the main fire was brought under control, crews stayed at the scene to perform overhaul operations and ensure no flames remained. Two people were displaced by the fire. No injuries were reported. The department also thanked neighboring communities for providing station coverage while Fitchburg firefighters were committed to the incident.
