Mastic Beach FD Hosts Multi Agency Pet CPR & First Aid Jrs Drill

Mastic Beach, N.Y.- On the evening of Thursday May 9, 2024 at the Mastic Beach Fire Department a joint Juniors training was held for the local area. The Mastic Beach Fire Department Junior Firefighters were joined by Mastic Fire Department Explorers and Mastic Beach Ambulance Company Youth Squad for a Pet CPR and First aid training taught by Tom from Pawns N Claws 911. Tom is a EMS Provider and fire fighter with years of experience in the EMS field as well as teaching Pet CPR and first aid to Fire , EMS , Police  and  even to those out of the services. On this occasion he taught about 30 Juniors in his class which is hands on.


 


  With his training Dogs the instructor was able to show proper ways to Muzzle a dog, Do CPR on Small, Medium and Large dogs, Handle choking and even ways to apply a Tourniquet or other first aid measures to a Dog. It was also explained that these skills could be applied to other pets such as cats if need be. The students were very attenative and learned a lot.
