Mastic N.Y.- On Sunday May 23rd at about 3:35 PM the Mastic Fire Department was activated for a report of a motor vehicle crash on Herkimer St at Clinton Ave. Fire-Com Advised chiefs Rudy Sunderman and Gene Martucci that the caller reported a pole was hit in the crash. On arrival Chief Sunderman advised that he had a 2 vehicle crash with a pole struck, no one was trapped in any of the vehicles. Mastic Ambulance was also dispatched to the scene and responded.
Engines 5-12-1, 5-12-2 & 5-12-4 responded to the alarm along with the chiefs, Fire Police unit 80 and Captain Steve J who was the duty officer. Crews on arrival were requested to bring brooms, shovels and speedy dry to clean up fluid and debris on the scene. While firefighters were working on cleaning up the fluids and debris members of Mastic Ambulance company were evaluating the occupants of both vehicles. They had multiple people who had injuries which were not life-threatening. Mastic Ambulance requested an additional ambulance from Center Moriches FD as well as ambulances from Shirley Community ambulance. The patients were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. FD remained on scene until the tow trucks arrived. PSEG was requested for pole damage and the scene was turned over to Suffolk Police to await their arrival.
