Shirley N.Y. On Thursday May 20th at about 11:45 AM the Brookhaven and Mastic Fire Departments along with Shirley Ambulance were activated for a report of a vehicle crash on River Rd near Beatrice Dr. On arrival Police and Emergency personnel found a singe vehicle crash into a pole. No one was in the car, the driver of the vehicle was located in the woods. Brookhaven firefighters responded with Rescue’s 3 & 4 and Mastic came into the scene with their Rescue truck 5-12-10. Firefighters secured the vehicle at the scene and also assisted Shirley Community ambulance as needed with getting the driver out of the woods. The driver was taken to Sony Brook University Hospital for treatment of his injuries. A Suffolk Police K9 unit was called in to check the woods and make sure no other people were in the vehicle and ejected.
Fire police and SCPD closed River Road in the area while responders operated.The scene was turned over to police who kept the road closed until PSEG could come make repairs to the pole that was taken out by the car.
