On May 13th, the Yaphank Fire Department was activated for a reported bobcat fire on Lincoln Road. Unit 5-30-7 responded to the area but was initially unable to locate the machine and was redirected to a nearby brush fire.
While returning from the brush fire, crews observed heavy smoke coming from the woods and began investigating. They soon located the original incident—a bobcat fully involved in fire.
Unit 5-30-6 arrived on scene, entered the trail, and began extinguishment operations. Shortly after, 5-30-8 arrived and supplied 5-30-6 with water while also stretching an additional handline to assist.
Crews worked efficiently to bring the fire under control, and all units returned to service within approximately one hour.
