This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On may 5th at approximately 8:00 PM, the Yaphank Fire Department was activated for a smoke investigation on East Main Street.

Chief 5-30-31 arrived on scene and discovered a large pile of mulch on fire, requesting the department’s brush trucks and Tower Ladder to respond. Brush 6 and Brush 3 arrived and immediately began fire attack operations. Tower Ladder 10 also responded, with Command requesting four tankers to establish a water supply operation for Tower 10.

Firefighters operated for approximately two hours before the scene was placed under control. Great work by all responding units and mutual aid departments that assisted on scene.

The Yaphank Fire Department would also like to thank the members of the Mastic Beach Fire Department, Middle Island Fire Department, Manorville Fire Department, and Ridge Fire Department for their assistance at the scene, as well as the members of the Brookhaven Fire Department for providing standby coverage for the district.
