Head Injury from Construction Equipment Incident — Multi-Agency Response

Genoa, NY - Genoa Volunteer Fire Department, New York, responded to a construction accident involving a worker who sustained a serious head injury after being struck by the bucket of heavy equipment.


Automatic aid was requested from King Ferry Fire Department and Southern Cayuga Instant Aid, Inc. due to the nature of the incident.


Upon arrival, crews located the patient with traumatic injuries consistent with a blunt force impact to the head. It was unclear whether the patient had initially been pinned by the equipment bucket, but they were found free of the machine when units arrived.


Firefighters immediately initiated patient care and ensured the stabilization of the involved equipment to secure the scene.


Once stabilized, care of the patient was transferred to Southern Cayuga Instant Aid, Inc., who assumed transport to Upstate Medical Trauma Center. The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office also assisted on scene. All responding units cleared and returned to service in under an hour.
