Firefighters Extinguish 3 Alarm Mill Fire

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Fall River, Ma. District Chief Jeff Bacon emptied the cities fire stations and the strategy saved a mill from destruction. At 8:15 am on Tuesday morning a still alarm was called in for a fire in a vacant mill in the south end of the city. When Chief Bacon arrived he reported he had smoke showing from a number of windows on the second and third floor of the three story heavy timber mill building. Bacon ordered dispatch to send every available company to his location, necessitating the immediate third alarm response. The members made an aggressive interior attack and were able to contain and extinguish the fire and save the mill. At the beginning of the incident Chief Bacon asked for the Police departments help to evacuate all the homes in the immediate vicinity of the mill as a precaution in case they lost containment. The structure had been vacant for a number of years and all utilities had been cut off so at this time it is considered suspicious.
