Mastic N.Y. – On Sunday May 1, 2022, at 5:12 PM the Mastic Fire Department and Mastic Ambulance company were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Garden Place off Mastic Blvd East. 1st Lt Rudy Sunderman and the crew of Rescue 5-12-10 were first to respond and advised by Fire-Com that they were responding to a car vs. house.
On arrival Lt. Sunderman advised that a single vehicle crashed into the home, but no one was trapped in the vehicle. Crews from rescue 5-12-10 and Engine 5-12-4 were advised that they would need to secure the vehicle and clean up on the outside. On arrival assistant chief Gene Martucci assumed command of the scene and went into the home to investigate the situation. It was determined that due to extensive damage a building inspector would be needed prior to removing the car and one was requested.
On crews from Mastic Ambulance checked out the driver of the vehicle and further treatment was not requested. Suffolk Police 7th Precinct officers interviewed the driver and conducted field sobriety tests on the driver and they were taken into custody. Suffolk Police ESU were also on scene to assist. All fire units with the exception of the assistant chief were back in service in about 45 Mins.
