Quick Action Prevents Woods Fire from Spreading Near Former School Property

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Avon, CT - The Avon Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported campfire in a wooded area behind the former Huckleberry Hill Elementary School, requiring crews to access the scene on foot due to difficult terrain.

Firefighters carried Indian packs and hand tools into the woods to locate and fully extinguish the fire, ensuring no hotspots remained.

The operation highlights the challenges of battling fires in remote locations where apparatus access is limited.

Officials emphasize that despite recent light rainfall, conditions remain unusually dry, keeping the fire danger at a high level.

Under such circumstances, even small, unattended fires can spread rapidly and pose a significant threat to surrounding woodlands and nearby communities.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and take precautions to help prevent accidental fires, protecting both natural resources and public safety
