Stewartstown, PA — April 5th — Crews from the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported cardiac arrest at Wheat Road and Alum Rock Road. Ambulance 54, Medic 2-70, Brush 54-1, and Brush 54-2 were informed that the patient was several hundred yards off the road in a forested area beside a creek. A Stokes basket operation was requested from Rescue 54.
When units arrived, they discovered a single man patient experiencing cardiac arrest as onlookers were administering CPR. The patient was packaged for removal and advanced life support was started by the crews. After being carried out in a Stokes basket, the patient was placed in an ambulance and given priority transportation to a nearby hospital. Rescue 56 provided personnel assistance. In cases of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, early CPR still improves survival rates.
