Brookhaven FD Responds to Involved Auto on Smith Rd.

SHIRLEY, NY - On Saturday, April 8th at about 9:30 P.M., the Brookhaven Fire Department was dispatched for a report of a vehicle fire on Smith Road At Mastic Blvd. West, near the LIRR Tracks. Fire-Com advised Chief of Department Anthony Verni that they received multiple calls for an involved auto near the tracks and that the MTA Police and Suffolk Police were also notified.
On arrival, Chief of Department Verni and Assistant Chief Hudson Darrow found a vehicle that was involved in flames. They advised Fire-com that the vehicle was north of the railroad tracks and that MTA Police would not need to stop any trains.
Engines 5-3-8 and 5-3-9 came into the scene and the crews were directed to stretch a line and get water on the fire. Firefighters were able to make a quick knock down of the fire and no injuries were reported. Smith Road was closed in the area from Northern Blvd. to Mastic Blvd. West as the scene was turned over to Suffolk Police for a further investigation at the request of SCPD. All FD units were back in service within one hour.
