ATKINSON, NH — March 17th — The Atkinson Fire Department was called to 10 Meadow Lane in response to a report that a tree had struck a house that smelled strongly of propane. When crews arrived, they discovered that a big downed pine tree had struck the back of the building, damaging a gas cylinder and creating an active leak. Before arriving, every occupant had safely left. To lessen risks, firefighters set up a water supply, secured utilities, and used handlines to disperse fumes.

Technicians from Palm Gas arrived to help, but until the tree was removed, access to the cylinder was restricted. The leak was sealed without any more problems after it was discovered. While Hampstead supplied station coverage, Plaistow and Salem Fire Departments helped on the scene. After the site was declared safe and the hazard was reduced, units were evacuated.
