This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On Monday April 6th at approximately 0836 hours the Carteret Fire Department was dispatched to the Red Roof Inn on Roosevelt Ave for a reported fire. Upon the first due engines arrival they had smoke showing from a hotel room on the 2nd floor and transmitted a working fire + a 2nd alarm. Engine 3 arrived 2nd due and laid a supply line from the entrance to supply the 1st due engine. Companies quickly stretched a 2.50” attack line for suppression. Due to the door being locked crews had to force entry. Avenel Engine 5-1 assisted the first due engine in suppression while Woodbridge Truck 1-2-1 went to the roof to check for any fire. The fire was quickly knocked down and companies began overhaul. The fire was marked under control at 0904 hours. Carteret Engine 2, and 3, Avenel Engine 5-1, Woodbridge Truck 1-2-1, and Perth Amboy Rescue 1 operated on the scene while Colonia Engine 12-3 and Iselin Ladder 9-2-4 covered fire headquarters.
