PHILLIPSBURG, NJ — March 26th — A reported brush fire in Holland Township near 2150 Route 519 prompted firefighters from the Huntington Volunteer Fire Co. #1 Station 75 Fire to react. When responders responded to the report in the evening, they discovered a brush fire that was actively burning in the foliage beside the road.
To contain the fire and prevent it from spreading into adjacent woodland areas, firefighters used hose lines and hand tools. The Pohatcong Township Fire Department was asked for mutual aid in order to help with manpower and suppression efforts. Early spring is a popular time for brush fires because wind, dry leaves, and brush may spread fire swiftly. Fire officials advise locals to be cautious when burning outside in dry circumstances and to adhere to local burn rules.
