The South Windsor Fire Department responded to a report of smoke inside a residence at 635 Nevers Road at 10:50 a.m. on March 17th. An oil delivery man filling a tank at the property observed smoke through the windows and heard a smoke alarm, causing him to call 911.

While units were responding, the agency was also called to a car accident with injuries near Costco. The Manchester Fire Department was tasked with handling the incident, along with SWFD Car 11.

SWFD Car 19 responded first at the Nevers Road home and conducted a 360-degree evaluation, detecting a heavy burning stench. Engines 3 and 6 forced access and found significant smoke inside. Crews discovered burning rags in the kitchen and promptly extinguished the fire, causing no damage to the structure.

The home was unoccupied and being renovated. There were no injuries recorded. The South Windsor Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
