Mutual Aid Departments Assist at Oriskany Falls Barn Fire

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

ORISKANY FALLS, NY — March 9th — A reported barn fire at 2525 Perry-Shumaker Road prompted the Oriskany Falls Fire Department (PO Box 582, 172 Madison St., Oriskany Falls, NY, United States, 13425) and many mutual aid agencies to respond. Within six minutes, Engine 2 arrived and saw a big, roughly 130 by 80-foot agricultural and storage building with considerable smoke coming from its eaves and gable vents. Firefighters swiftly put out the main body of fire after declaring a working fire and deploying a 1½-inch handline.

While technicians started ventilation and checked the attic space for extension, command was established. Other units helped with overhaul, suppression, and water supply. Vernon Center, Deansboro, Munnsville (FAST), Madison, Vernon, Clinton, Westmoreland, Clark Mills, and other county resources were among the mutual help departments.
