UTICA, NY — March 12th — Oneida County 911 received reports reporting smoke from the roof, and the UFD responded to a reported fire in an abandoned building at 248 Genesee Street. Engine 7, Engine 1, Engine 5, Truck 2, Rescue 2, and Car 4 responded to a first alarm assignment. Firefighters saw smoke coming from the fourth floor and roof when they arrived. While engine crews moved a line inside and used the building's standpipe system to conduct an investigation, Truck 2 used the aerial to reach the roof.

In a former boiler chimney chase, firefighters found a minor fire and put it out with little damage. Squatters inside the building were connected to the fire, according to officials. This was the city's third recorded fire in an abandoned building in less than a week.
