Fire Breaks Out in West Islip Home

WEST ISLIP, NY - At approximately 3:15 A.M. on March 23rd, the West Islip Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire on Arcardia Drive. First responding chiefs were advised of a living room fire and that everyone was out.


Upon the arrival of 2nd Assistant Chief Steven Mirrione (3-17-32), he transmitted a Signal 13/35 (Working Fire) and had fire showing on the exposure one side. First due engine 3-17-5 nosed into the hydrant and put lines into operation on arrival. Upon the arrival of 3-17-4, they positioned in front of the house and went in for searches that were negative.


The first rapid intervention team (1-8-6) was put to work as a truck company. With this, Bay Shore Engine 3-1-1 was bumped to the scene and Babylon was requested to standby with an engine (1-2-3). Crews operated two handlines, and one person was evaluated via EMS.


Mutual aid consisted of the North Babylon Fire Company for a Rapid Intervention Team (1-8-6), Bay Shore Fire Department for an engine to standby (3-1-1), and Babylon Fire Department for an engine to standby (1-2-3). Units operated under Chief of West Islip Fire Department, John McAuley. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
