Training Pays Off in Rapid Fire Knockdown

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

At 12:25 a.m. on February 28, the Berkshire Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters established a supply line to the area and extended an attack line into the house. Crews encountered a large room-and-contents fire and worked immediately to confine it. A quick knockdown, followed by checks for fire expansion, brought the problem under control.

Officials warned that if the fire was not extinguished immediately, it might spread across the house and into an adjacent garage.

The agency commended the Maine Emergency Squad, dispatchers, and the Newark Valley Fire agency for their help and continued training relationship.
