Hawthorne FD Handles Smoke Condition With Mutual Aid Support

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Hawthorne, NY — March 11th — A smoke condition inside a building in the 100 block of Brady Avenue was reported to the Hawthorne Fire Department. The Thornwood Fire Department and the Valhalla Fire Department sent out mutual aid to help. When firefighters arrived, they saw a lot of smoke on the first level and started looking for the source. Crews discovered that a forklift that had been left operating within a rear garage area, allowing exhaust to accumulate inside the building, was the source of the smoke.

After confirming that the building was empty, firefighters started ventilation procedures to get rid of carbon monoxide and smoke. The building was cleared and safe conditions were restored by crews using fans and natural ventilation. To safeguard the Mount Pleasant community, the HFD continues to collaborate closely with nearby organizations.
