TICONDEROGA, NY — February 23rd — After a collision in the Town of Ticonderoga, the Chilson Volunteer Fire Department, located at 60 Putts Pond Road, responded to an electric car fire just before noon. The car did not catch fire while traveling, according to officials, but it had struck guardrails before the fire. Before firefighters arrived, every passenger safely got out of the car.

Firefighters controlled risks associated with the lithium-ion battery and secured the area. Because of the possibility of battery re-ignition, electric vehicle fires may need close observation. The car was sent to the Schroon Lake facility of the New York State Department of Transportation for observation following suppression and stabilization. A number of Essex County organizations offered assistance and support to one another. The incident was managed safely, and no injuries were recorded.
