BRONX, NY - The FDNY responded to a 4-alarm fire at 1234 E Gun Hill Road in the Bronx just before midnight on Thursday, March 5th. Units arrived to find fire extending through the cockloft, the area between the ceiling and the roof, and into adjoining occupancies, ultimately affecting 11 stores.
“When units opened up the store, they encountered fire in the cockloft that had spread across several adjoining stores,” said Deputy Assistant Chief Paul Miller. “At the height of the operation, firefighters had six hose lines stretched and utilized a cockloft nozzle to knock down the fire and prevent it from spreading further.”
During the course of operations, two vehicles were found illegally parked on hydrants and were issued criminal court summonses.
One firefighter sustained a minor injury during the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
