Central Square, NY — February 11th — Caughdenoy Volunteer Fire Department Inc. firefighters were called to a chimney fire on County Route 10 after someone saw flames rising from the top of a chimney. Shortly after dispatch, additional cops and personnel arrived with a rescue pumper and tanker, followed by Assistant Chief Eiffe and Second Assistant Chief Cox. An engine company from Phoenix Enterprise Fire Company No. 1 was asked to help due to a shortage of personnel.

After discovering a smoldering chimney fire, firefighters cleared the area, cleaned the chimney, and looked for any potential extensions into the house. There were no reports of damage to the house. Residents are reminded by officials that routine chimney cleaning lowers the danger of creosote accumulation and chimney fires in the winter.
