February 2, 2026 — Canterbury NH Fire & Rescue responded to the interstate near Exit 18 for a reported box truck fire. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and active fire conditions involving a commercial-style box truck parked along the shoulder. Firefighters worked quickly to contain and extinguish the blaze while managing hazardous conditions caused by the vehicle’s cargo, which included tools and numerous batteries.
Due to the intensity of the fire and the materials involved, the truck and its contents were declared a total loss. No injuries were reported. The New Hampshire State Police temporarily shut down the interstate for nearly an hour, allowing emergency personnel to operate safely and prevent further hazards to passing motorists. The cause of the fire has not been released.
