NEWPORT, NH — April 12th — A reported brush fire in the vicinity of Sand Hill Road close to the Croydon town boundary prompted the Newport Fire Department, located at 11 Sunapee St. When crews arrived, they discovered a wind-driven fire growing across dry fuels. The incident was elevated to a first alarm and then a second alarm due to the circumstances and possibility for expansion, which brought more personnel to the scene. To control the fire, firefighters started coordinated suppression efforts.

Claremont, Croydon, Newbury, Unity, Goshen, New London, Springfield, Grantham, Sunapee, Lempster, and Washington mutual assistance organizations provided support. No casualties were recorded after the fire was put out. Residents were warned by officials that during dry weather, outdoor burning necessitates licenses and careful observation.
