Hazardous Materials Response in Whitman

WHITMAN, MASSACHUSETTS (PLYMOUTH COUNTY) - Around 1630 hours on the afternoon of Thursday, February 23, 2023 the Whitman Fire and Police Departments responded to a report of a suspicious and potentially hazardous substance that was found inside an apartment at 355 South Avenue. Ambulance-248, Engine-243 and Car-3 responded.
Out of an abundance of caution, a tier-1 hazardous materials response was requested, bringing technicians from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services District-1 Hazardous Materials Team to the scene. Whitman Fire struck a box for manpower to cover the station during the incident.
Upon the arrival of the hazardous materials team Truck-11 and several technicians, they were able to determine that there were no indications of dangerous levels of hazardous materials in the apartment. Crews cleared the scene at approximately 1915 hours.
