Lowndes and Hahira Agencies Stand Together

VALDOSTA, GA — February 19th — Caleb Abney, a current Hahira Police Officer and a former fireman, passed away early Thursday morning while performing his duty. Lowndes County Fire Rescue and other public safety organizations around South Georgia are in sorrow. After entering police enforcement, Abney maintained a close relationship with Lowndes County Fire Rescue, where he had previously served.


His professionalism, work ethic, and commitment to helping others were recognized when he was named Probationary Firefighter of the Year in 2024. According to officials, his career exemplified the close collaboration between the local fire department and law enforcement. The Hahira Police Department, Chief Stryde Jones, and Abney's family have all received support and sympathies.
