Lamoine Volunteer Fire Department Mourns the Passing of Chief George “Skip” Smith

February 13, 2026 — It is with deep sadness that the Lamoine Volunteer Fire Department announces the passing of Chief George “Skip” Smith.


Chief Smith served as the heart and foundation of the department, leading as Fire Chief for 49 years. His decades of dedication, leadership, and commitment to the community shaped the Lamoine Volunteer Fire Department and impacted generations of firefighters.

Chief Smith will be tremendously missed by the members of LVFD and by the many lives he touched throughout his years of service.


The department extends its heartfelt sympathies to his wife Carol, daughters Alicia and Meghan, and to all of his family and friends during this difficult time.
