Caribou Fire & Ambulance has announced that the $10 burn permit cost will remain in effect in 2026. Most outdoor burning within municipal borders requires a permission, which is good for the entire calendar year. Officials reminded people that recreational campfires are limited to three feet in diameter and must adhere to city regulations. Brush or debris burning requires a valid permit and must adhere to the Maine Forest Service's fire hazard ratings.

Burning is not permitted under Extreme or Very High fire hazard conditions. Additional restrictions apply during Red Flag Warnings. Residents are encouraged to check the daily fire danger rating before burning and to adhere to all local and state regulations.
