The Ipswich Fire Department said that crews have been working all week to clear snow from fire hydrants after a recent winter storm. Hydrants cover nearly all of Ipswich, but severe snowfall can easily bury them and impede emergency access. Firefighters have been working through neighborhoods to find as many hydrants as possible, but covering the entire town takes time. Fire officials noted that quick access to water is critical during a fire, and even short delays can affect operations. Residents and business owners are encouraged to check hydrants near their properties and clear them if they are able. Community assistance helps improve response times and supports safer fireground operations. The department also thanked residents who have already helped by shoveling hydrants in their neighborhoods, noting that these efforts directly support public safety.
