February 2nd — The Essex, MA Fire Department and the Ipswich Fire Department recently held a joint training exercise focusing on ice rescue tactics. The training was intended to improve firefighter skills when working on ice-covered bodies of water, which is a regular winter hazard in the region. Before conducting hands-on evolutions focusing on collaboration and clear communication, crews reviewed rescue tactics, equipment use, and safety practices.

Officials stated that combined training allows agencies to become acquainted with each other's equipment and operational styles, which is useful during mutual-aid reactions. To decrease the risk to both victims and responders, ice rescue operations must be carefully planned and coordinated Support during the training was provided by REHAB FIVE, which supplied a bus used as a warming and changing area for participants.
